To my bidders: For years I have done business on eBay using the name: gpstorageco*. The items I will be selling from this point on are being sold from my estate and from the estates of friends and relatives.
This WWII German K-98 Bayonet belonged to a friend of mine who recently passed away. He set aside vintage military items over the years. This blade was found in an old wooden box with some other bayonets.
This WWII German K-98 Bayonet is as found in his bayonet collection. It is very clean overall and has it's original 1942 dated leather frog (see photos). The bayonet's fullered blade shows light/average use and remains unsharpened edge (see photos). It retains approximately 80% of it's original thin blued finish with most wear losses towards the tip (see photos). The blade ricasso is marked to one side with the serial number (1531a) and the other side with the date & coded maker - 42 fnj (see photos). The coded manufacturer fnj is Alexander Coppel (see photos). The crossguard, pommel and backstrap have a thinned finish remaining that is browning overall (see photos). Oil darkened wood grips are clean/tight and are secured with screws (see photos). The pommel side has the appropriate waffenamt's and spring loaded release button functions properly.
The bayonet scabbard is clean with a couple small dings to the backside (see photos). It is beginning to brown overall and is marked to both sides (see photos). The serial number to the scabbard matches the serial number to the bayonet blade (see photos). Frog stud remains tightly affixed (see photos).
The leather frog is very solid overall with no stitching losses (see photos). It is made of a leather and is maker marked (gfg) and dated 1943 to the reverse (see photos). The small retaining strap remains in place, is solid and functions properly (see photos).
This WWII German K-98 bayonet is very clean overall. It shows some light/average wear but is definitely collector quality It is guaranteed to be an original period piece as described and would make an excellent display item. Tough to find these matching 1942 dated bayonets as it seems they all went to the "Eastern Front" and never came back.
