Description:
This is a WWII German Staatliche Waffenfabrik, Chatellerault, French Made Mauser K98 8mm bolt action rifle M1884/98 III (third pattern) bayonet knife, scabbard and frog.
Condition:
The bayonet is in good serviceable condition. Most
of the finish is still present. Press catch is functional and has stiff spring tension. Pommel, flash guard and guard have dings, rust, pitting and scratches. Grips are made of wood and have minor dings and scratches on them. Grips are a little loose and secured by two screws, their heads are in good condition but they have light rust. Guard is held on tightly. Spine has light dings and scratches. It is straight with no unusual curves. Each side has a single fuller. There are scratches on both sides. Blade edge has no nicks or dings. It has its original factory edge. The knife comes to a sharp straight point and the tip is intact. Markings are easy to read.
Metal bayonet is in good serviceable condition. Bayonet slides in and out easily. It has dings, rust & scratches. Most of the finish is gone. Frog stud is securely attached and rusty as well. Markings are semi easy to read, but we can't take off the frog because it is a little delicate.
The leather frog is in fair serviceable condition. There are no rips or tears. Stitching is sewn tight. Rivets are securely fastened and functional, but rusty. Leather is very dried out and borderline brittle. Markings have worn off.
