Description
This is a "Made by FORD" Pratt & Whitney emblem that was originally placed on the oil tank at the base of the engine. These "pennies" often became a prize for the mechanic assigned to maintain the engine. It's anyone's guess what type of engine this emblem was from. Ford was one of the many licensed producers of PW radial engines to help the war effort. The emblem has great colors. Tiny chip of enamel missing at bottom, does not detract from the emblem at all.
I have worked on modern P&W engines (FT8 gas turbines) and they had the same emblem placed on the side of the auxiliary gearbox next to the serial number plate.
The emblem is ~ 2 1/4" from wingtip to wingtip.
