ULTRA RARE, Original Version 1.0 America Online Charter Membership Startup KitAn Amazing Piece of Computer History
This is an extremely rare piece of computer history: an original American Online mailer issued for the February 1991 launch of this early internet service. For sale here is an entire membership kit!
The kit include:
Two original 3.5" floppies with PC Version 1.0 software. You will, however, need a whopping 512K of memory! The disks contain two copyright years, 1990 and 1991, and refer to AOL's predecessor, Quantum Computer Services.
A three page marketing letter signed by AOL founder and former president Steve Case. Among other things, the letter asks for feedback on this new service by June 15, 1991, because "Your insights can influence the introduction of an important new service." I think it's now called The Internet!
A special charter membership offer, guaranteeing that with your Charter Membership to AOL, you will lock in a 20% discount on AOL fees for life (No word on whether the offer still stands!)
A Getting Started guide.
A Getting Around guide.
A Information for Members guide detailing, among other things, AOL's early rates (/hour 6 a.m. to 6 p.m M-F).
The original cardboard holder in which the materials were packaged for mailing. This packet has been opened, but was never addressed or mailed.
Condition: All of the guides are in absolutely mint condition, with no tears, stains or other marks. Corners are sharp as the day they were printed. The cardboard holder shows some edge wear, and has a small surface tear on the very bottom front (see photo). The Steve Case letter was folded into quarters. The data on the disks has
not
been checked.
This is a rare chance to own a piece of computer history. Feel free to email with questions. Free shipping in the U.S.
