    Description

    ORIGINAL/NAMED
    IMO RELIC FINE
    WWI GERMAN PRUSSIAN (
    Deutsches Reichsheer)
    ENLISTED BELT BUCKLE.
    Normally referred to as
    "1885 Buckle"
    this Armies of the German Empire buckle, is a
    BRASS EXAMPLE
    of legendary German workmanship.
    German Empire was made up of four Kingdoms, Prussia, Bavaria, Saxony and Wurttemberg along with several Grand Duchies, Duchies and Principalities.  They all contributed to the German war effort and the larger ones had some distinctive uniforms. Prussia was the largest Kingdom and this buckle carries the Prussian Crown with the motto
    "
    Gott Mit Uns
    " [God (Is) With Us].
    NOT BOGUS REPRO OR SWAP MEET BENT/DENTED MESS
    ,
    this slightly convex, approximately 2 ½” X 2” one-piece construction
    Prussian
    belt buckle, unlike imitations, has
    extremely fine, although lightly worn pressed detail
    .  Buckle’s plain, obverse field features a dual rope-like border within, against a finely ribbed background, is
    "
    Gott Mit Uns
    " [God (Is) With Us]
    above a spray of laurels. The
    Imperial Crown
    is on a domed center, inside the innermost circle.

    :
    Obverse features
    rounded buckle catch
    spot-welded to the body;
    vs.
    rectangular catch
    ;
    steel “brass covered” prong bar
    vs.
    alloy.
    Additionally, complete
    Belt prongs
    for belt’s retaining tongue
    are rounded/unsharpened
    unlike sharpened and “angle cut”
    REPROS
    , Prongs attach to the cylindrical structure, and swivel over 180 degrees allowing buckle attachment to the belt. Buckle reverse, displaying very fine pressed emblem detail with absolutely no damage except for minor scuffing around catch from user belt fastening. There are no markings in this example
    which is correct;
    some
    buckles were marked while others were not. "One of nicest preserved Prussian Buckles" consulting
    collector says he's seen. Buckle was  there and did it in bloody WWI trench warfare. This Early, 100+ years old undamaged gem, with a pleasing patina, came from Family WWI Vet Estate. Have several additional family WWI/WWII German/U.S. equipment/accoutrements...
