This offering is for a new-old-stock Suntour GPX hubset that is finished in a light metalic gray enamel. It's a late 80's hubset and detailed specifications include the following...

I see Sansin markings on the outside (cup-n-cone) dust covers, so evidently Suntour used some component pieces from a fellow Japanese bicycle parts company to help with the assembly of these hubsets.
We should also note that all of our Suntour catalogs make a clear distinction between their sport/recreation components and their competition-level components, and without exception the Suntour GPX components are always included among the latter...and in the same company as Suntour's Superbe Pro and Sprint groupsets from this era. We are not saying the GPX hubset is the equivalent of Superbe Pro, because it is not...but it is in the discussion as a competition-level hubset coming out of Japan that has been designed for the additional stresses brought about by competitive cycling.
From a comparative standpoint with the more popular Shimano product lines, there seems to be a general consensus among our immediate circle of colleagues that Suntour's GPX offerings were the rough equivalent to Shimano's 105 offerings. So it probably comes as no surprise that like the Shimano 105 hubset from this era, this Suntour GPX front and rear hub have a one-piece forged aluminum alloy body and a traditional cup-n-cone bearing design...so a very strong and durable offering that should hold up well under stressful conditions.
These hubsets are actually leftover parts from the retail boxed groupsets we previously offered for sale. Although, now we only have a few partial groupsets, so we're selling off the remaining parts. I mention this, because the hubset will ship without any retail packaging, but it's actually been in storage for the past 30+ years in it's original retail packaging...so the cosmetic condition is very nice.
Listing Update...I have just one of these hubsets left in stock and it shows well (as previously mentioned). Although, the aging process has not been kind to the plastic/resin covers that cover the hardened steel quick release skewer nuts. As you can see in the pictures, these covers have cracked in one place. The plastic/resin covers are still intact, but I still wanted to mention the problem...even if it is just cosmetic and will never impact the function of the hubset. Finally, I want to confirm the pictures have been updated to reflect this last hubset.
A note regarding threaded rear hubs/freewheels...
We've received a number of compatibility questions concerning the number sprockets on a freewheel (i.e., 5, 6 or 7-speed freewheel compatibility) relative to available space on a rear hub. It's been our experience that when dealing with vintage road bike rear hubs, 5-speed or ultra (narrow) spaced 6-speed freewheels will generally mount on rear hubs with 120 mm locknut-to-locknut spacing. The freewheel options tend to expand when the locknut-to-locknut spacing increases to 126 mm. In the latter case, we've had good success mounting 5, 6 or 7-speed freewheels. Another thought hear is freewheels with a narrower footprint (i.e., 5-speed or ultra spaced 6-speed models) will leave larger gaps on rear hubs with 126 mm spacing...so some rear derailleur limit screw adjustments will most likely be necessary to avoid overshifts off the high or low gear (small or tall sprocket).
Lastly, we want to mention the aluminum alloy threading on most rear hubs is generally fragile...meaning that any inadvertent cross threading can present a problem, so this is one of those areas where we are always careful and take a little extra time.

We only charge actual shipping rates, but once an order exceeds a certain amount, we hesitate to use the least expensive US Postal Services First Class International service. We feel this way, because this service is not trackable or insurable...so more risk of loss. We prefer the US Postal Services Priority Mail International service for more expensive orders, because this service is trackable at USPS.com and insurable...so less risk of loss. Unfortunately, this service is more expensive, especially for smaller/lighter packages, relative to the First Class International service. We are sorry about these higher shipping costs, but hopefully our notes help to explain why this is the case.
