Description
This is the autograph ofJimmy Dorsey
(1904-1957),
the famous jazz clarinetist, saxophonist, composer
and big band leader.
He and his brother
Tommy Dorsey
(1905-1956)
were two of the most successful musicians of
the Swing Era. They played together in their
early years, but later went their separate ways.
The autograph is on the inside of a photo
album that was originally purchased at
Frank Dailey's Meadowbrook
, one of
the most well-known music venues of
the era. The first nationwide broadcast
of dance music was held there in 1936.
Jimmy Dorsey played there many, many
times.
The Meadowbrook was also the site
where many records of live performances
were created; both Jimmy Dorsey and
his brother recorded live albums there,
playing both separately and together.
The autograph is signed in blue ink on
the second page of this four page
souvenir photo album.
There is a group
photo held in a thick
paper frame on
the third page. This
b/w photo is of a
group
of about thirty
young people,
whose ages look to be
between 17 and 22
. This photo could
be easily removed, if so desired.
Please note that Jimmy Dorsey's signature
is upside-down in relation to the printed
words on this souvenir photo album.
This item is in good condition, with
