Description
Exceptional near mint Pre-Franco-Prussian War Enlisted Man's Brass Belt Buckle ( M1847 ) with Maker Marked ( A. Wiersbitzky, Halberstadt ) supple belt size 100 approx. 39.5”. The leather is complete and in remarkable shape for an item in excess of 140+ years old. Halberstadt became part of the newly established Kingdom of Prussia in 1701 and is currently a town in the German state of Saxony-Anhalt, the capital of the Harz district. The buckle and belt are Prussian, from the Franco-Prussian War before Germany was unified into an Empire at Versailles in 1871. If this belt could speak it would have an incredible story to tell. Several of these Buckles were used in WW1 by the German 8th Army on the Eastern Front. When Russia bowed out in 1917, several units were transferred to the Western Front where they finished the war.Multiple purchases can be combined for postal savings.
