    Description

This Unit Marked Buckle ( M1847 ) is more than 170+ Years Old and came from the Kingdom of Prussia before Germany was created at the conclusion of the Franco-Prussian War in 1871. It is from the 22nd Reserve Division, 43 Reserve Infantry Brigade. The belt and buckle are in good condition. The belt was field modified to accommodate the buckle at some point in time as it did not leave the manufacturer in the present condition. These Buckles were used by the German 8th Army on the Eastern Front during the Great War for whatever reason. When Russia bowed out in 1917 several units were transferred to the Western Front for the balance of the war. Germany was unified under the King of Prussia who was elected German Emperor at Versailles at the conclusion of the war. He held the dual role of King of Prussia as well as German Emperor. Belt buckles prior to the unification show a large Prussian Crown in the center, there are subtle differences in this crown from the crown shown after unification. The belt measures approximately 38"long and was dyed black on both sides which was a 1916 regulation in the Great War. This is an interesting collectors piece of history as well as a good start to a collection.
