Description
Up for auction/sale is a vintage 8" Laserdisc which has been fashioned into a quartz clock for a close rental company named Compact Disc Center (CDC). As I researched CDC, I learned there were a number of disc rental companies in the early 1980s who had this name (one here in Wichita KS), but I did not find any indication they were related as a nationwide chain.Regardless, this is definitely a blast from the past which is striking and draws your attention to the wall clock. While researching the disc size itself, I learned this 7 7/8" diameter Laserdisc was not very common size in the US, it has the Pioneer name and logo on the reverse, and the digital code laser etched into the disc itself (98-000B1-07) references Madonna's first self-titled album "Madonna" (1984) in three separate disc database sources.
The clock keeps good time and is in very good condition overall, with only a few light scratches and couple very mild stains (no chips or physical damage), but overall for being > 35 years old it looks striking and presents very well.
I have described this Laserdisc clock as best I can, but to augment my description I have provided many high-resolution images of the disc from varying angles to allow for a detailed review of quality, condition, and desirability.
This will be packaged with care to best ensure this difficult to locate example of bygone technology from the digital age arrives as pictured and described.
