*This Hackman Co., bayonet was manufactured in Finland between 1928 & 1933. It may have been reconditioned by the Finnish Civil Guard. It is 16 1/4" long overall.
Blade -  This knife design is in excellent condition - bright steel - no staining or pitting or other defects most likely because of reconditioning. The blade length is 11 3/4" - the fullers are 5/16" wide & the back blade is 3/16" thick - markings: left ricasso, engraved "Hackman & Co." (SEE PIC.). This blade is "greased" w vaseline.
Cross Guard - the muzzle ring measures 5/8" in diameter - it is still partially blued  w a short quillon that hooks downward toward the blade - there is a samll amount of pitting where the blade enters the cross guard but no other places - markings: in the center of the right left side, on the flat surface is a "(KE)" which is the inspection mark of Kosti Eakola, chief inspector of the Civil Guard at SAKO until 1933. (SEE PICS.)
    Quillon - SEE ABOVE
Grips - are dark contoured hardwood (walnut?), secured to to the tang by 2 steel rivets ground over making them flush to the wood - the wood is in very good condition w a few dings & scratches on both sides - markings: (SEE PIC.) on the under side of the tang, stamped "S", followed by "10379", the last two numbers "79" have been stamped over a previous number (reconditioned?). The "S" is the Finnish Civil Guard's acceptance mark & the following numbers represent the district of Finland this bayonet was sent to by the general staff.
Pommel - bright steel classic bird's head design - most likely reconditioned - the press stud, which works really well is blued - markings" "64" is lined out w stamp slashes, below that is stamped "98" (NO PIC. OF THESE NUMBERS)
Scabbard - is an M-28 or M-28/30 fluted steel sheet metal which had been painted over w very dark green paint originally, only about 30% of the paint still exists mainly on the fluted grooves & near the finialed tip - because I didn't want to remove the frog from this scabbard I can't see if there any defects on it under the frog - there are some paint spots on the edge of the scabbard's throat - no visible bends, dings, holes or major scratches on the scabbard (SEE PICS.) - the scabbard frog stud is solid & mostly bright steel except for the arched top edge where there is either paint or bluing - the strap button on the right upper side is solid & bright steel (SEE PIC.)
Frog - * it is really RARE to have an original Finnish made frog on a bayonet scabbard - this one is in VERY GOOD condition w dark brown supple leather- all the stitching & the four corner rivets are in very good condition (there is some green corrosion (rust) present on the brass rivets) - the wrap around strap is in GOOD PLUS condition but it does have a 1/8" split 3/4" down from the button hole at its end (SEE PIC.) - there were some markings embossed on the back of the belt loop which are impossible to clearly see now - with a magnifying glass one can barely distinguish a possible "S" & the bottoms of the numbers "36" or "33" possibly.
    * This frog is such a rare item, that to a serious collector, it would be worth as much as the bayonet.
