Description
Right from the Estate of the Late MICHAEL ABER (Richland County, Ohio) and he had saved examples of THE BEST in many categories. Selling at this time, an earlyCAPO-di-MONTE DOUBLE FIGURINE
(Blue under glazed CROWNED N mark) of
MUSICIAN PLAYING an EARLY HAND CRANKED MUSIC BOX
,
with his
LADY having OPEN HAND FOR ALMS; CRIPPLED with CANE IN OTHER HAND
- Note that ALL FINGERS on ALL are just PERFECT .... in 160 YEARS .....
REMARKABLE!
Light shades here & there to hand painting was typical of that period ... and meant to be that way ...
NO WEAR TO PAINT and AS PAINTED.
Every now and then you find a "LIKE" figure ... but the later figures have the KILN RAISED HOLD BARS ...as the 1743-1834 figures are heavy and tended to crack when fired at the center base ....
THIS ONE IS PERFECT.
Around the 1834 era the Doccia factory acquired the early molds and moved back to Italy. Also, the later molds changed the "Turn" handle on the crank lyre type music box. The early ones actually show a very fine handle (as THIS one DOES) and the later ones more like a retangular bar. ---
FINE DETAIL but MEANS A LOT when AGING this figurine!
