    Description
This Silver Pearl Blue Diamond Vacumatic Major Fountain Pen has been fully restored and
    thoroughly cleaned and polished
    - a new Vac diaphragm as well. The plastic filler units were introduced around WWII, as the metals (Aluminum) were needed for the war effort, as was Brass which is why the blind cap tassie was eliminated.
The components on this pen are Vintage, and are in excellent condition. The barrel imprint is very easy to read; 6 surrounded by three dots so the 1st quarter of 1946. Parker phased out this model of Vacumatic in 1948 in the USA and in 1953 in Canada. Parker introduced different pearl colors of Vacs over the course of its production run, but Silver Pearl was the only pearl color produced from the introduction of this model until Parker retired it, and it is the only one with the silver colored trim (usually Nickel, but Parker also used Chrome).
This 1946 Vac has a Parker Arrow 14K Solid Gold nib with the same date code as the barrel. This particular nib is a very smooth writer and quite stiff. I'd judge line width to be about an 'F' point, leaning towards an 'EF'. This nib glides over the paper quite nicely - I like this nib. It is extremely clean - no visible blemishes or scratches at all. Tine alignment is impeccable.
The trim on this Vac looks excellent - no visible plating loss and very shiny - it might be Chrome plated, rather then Nickel. There is a monogram panel on the Art Deco cap band, but it hasn't been used. The cap band is nice and tight on the cap, as is the clip. The split arrow clip was introduced by Parker in 1937, and in 1938 they added the Blue Diamond - Parker's indication of a Lifetime Warranty to compete with Sheaffer's White Dot, and Eversharp's Double Check Mark pens; also Waterman's Hundred Year pens.
The black cap jewel looks excellent. I don't see any nicks, bad scratches or gouges on the cap, blind cap or barrel - no nibble marks either. This pen really is in very nice condition. Barrel transparency is only fair. This is a very nice Silver Pearl Vac with a beautiful 14K Solid Gold Split Arrow nib. This Vac has a very nice sheen to it as well.
Parker made the Vacumatic in many sizes, both length and girth - typically the most common were the Debutante (smallest), Junior, Standard (replaced by the Major), Major, and Over-sized (later replaced by the Maxima). This one is a Vac Major, and measures just over 5 inches capped, and about 5 7/8 inches with the cap posted.
BTW, if you are relatively new to the Parker Vacumatic filling system (used in Parker 51's, Vacumatics, later model Duofolds, etc.) for maximum fill, depress the filling plunger about 8 - 10 times, with just a brief pause between plunges. This will assure a maximum fill. Parker marketed the Vacumatic as being able to hold 103% more ink than a typical ink sac fountain pen. This was quite a substantial improvement, and a huge technological innovation, although Parker was not the only company to introduce sacless fountain pens.
If you are looking for a great addition to your fountain pen collection or want a high quality daily 'EF/F' point writer, then this Vac will serve you quite nicely. Vacumatics were Parker's Flagship line with high end materials and craftsmanship and have really stood the test of time.
